Mapping returns to Casa Navàs in Reus

  • The façade of the modernist jewel of the Plaça del Mercadal will host new projections to coincide with the celebration of the electronic art festival ISEA 2022.
  • The first screening will take place on Thursday 9 June at 10.15 pm and will be repeated on the 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, and 18th.
  • Vermuts Miró is the promoter of the initiative.

The façade of the Casa Navàs in Reus will once again be illuminated with the projection of a spectacular mapping. After the good reception of the first three sessions, which filled the Plaça del Mercadal, Casa Navàs and Vermuts Miró have decided to repeat the experience this June to coincide with the ISEA Barcelona Festival.

The mapping created by the artist Alba G. Corral will be projected over two weekends in June. The first screening will take place on Thursday 9 June, and will be repeated on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 June, and the following week on 16, 17 and 18 June. The operation will be the same as on the first occasion. The first projection of the mapping will be at 10.15 p.m. and will be repeated every 10 minutes until midnight, with the possibility of seeing it from any point in the square.

Corral’s video-musical creation aims to provide the façade of the Casa Navàs with a second visual and sound skin that shows, in an intimate way and with great delicacy, its inner beauty. It also aims to defend the importance of craftsmen in the construction of the great modernist works promoted by architects such as Doménech i Montaner and Antoni Gaudí. A claim that is also present in the guided tours organized at Casa Navàs. It should not be forgotten that Modernisme was a movement of great transversality and with the involvement of very diverse teams that made it possible to combine art and knowledge.

Vermuts Miró is the promoter of the mapping of the Casa Navàs, which is included in the programme of the international festival of electronic art ISEA 2022 (International Symposium on Electronic Art), which starts this week in Barcelona. This initiative also aims to highlight the fact that the modernist jewel of the Plaça del Mercadal in Reus, built between 1901 and 1908, is the only modernist work in Europe that preserves its original interior.

Alba G. Corral is a visual artist from Madrid who lives in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, has a background in computer engineering and a multidisciplinary vocation, and is dedicated to the creation of generative art using software. This internationally renowned creator has presented her work at various festivals and events in Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. She is also curator of the Eufònic festival in Terres de l’Ebre .
