A spectacular mapping will rediscover the façade of Casa Navàs

  • The work, by the artist Alba G. Corral, will provide the Art Nouveau jewel of the Plaça del Mercadal with a second visual and sound skin with the use of digital media.

  • It can be seen on 26, 27 and 28 May from 10.15 pm.

  • Vermuts Miró is the promoter of this initiative, which is part of the international electronic art festival ISEA 2022.

Casa Navàs will unveil its most hidden secrets through a mapping that will illuminate the entire façade with a spectacular show of lights and colours. The creation is the work of Alba G. Corral, who wanted to give Lluís Domènech i Montaner’s Art Nouveau jewel a second visual and sound skin that explains its most hidden history in an intimate way and with great delicacy.

Alba G. Corral is a visual artist from Madrid, who lives in Sant Carles de la Ràpita and has a background in computer engineering and a multidisciplinary vocation, and is dedicated to the creation of generative art through programming. This internationally renowned creator has presented her work at various festivals and events in Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. She is also curator of the Eufònic festival in Terres de l’Ebre.
One of the most surprising aspects of Art Nouveau is its transversality, since in the construction of its buildings, architects such as Domènech i Montaner or Antoni Gaudí incorporated craftsmen and engineers and created multidisciplinary and transversal teams that made it possible to add the latest creative and technological advances. In the same way that is done in Casa Navàs with the visits to visualise its significant importance, Alba G. Corral focuses on the relevance of the craftsmen and vindicates their essential work to understand the greatness of Art Nouveau in one of the best-preserved buildings existing.

It should be remembered that the jewel of the Plaça del Mercadal, built between 1901 and 1908, is the only modernist work in Europe that conserves the original interior and that its decorative elements, tapestries, ceramics, and paintings look just as they did on the first day. All this makes a visit to the Casa Navàs a unique experience for visitors and offers a journey through an artificial garden full of stained-glass windows, floral shapes and plays of light. It is this majesty that is reflected in the artist’s audiovisual proposal, which once again places Art Nouveau in Reus at the creative forefront.
The first video-musical projection can be seen from any point in the Plaça del Mercadal on Thursday 26 May at 10.15 pm. Each screening lasts approximately 10 minutes and will be repeated until midnight so that everyone can enjoy the show. The screenings will also be repeated on the following days, 27 and 28 May, at the same time, and the possibility of extending it over more days is being studied.

In line with its values of commitment and support for cultural initiatives, Vermuts Miró is the promoter of the mapping projection on the façade of Casa Navàs, which is also part of the programme of the international electronic art festival ISEA 2022, which will take place in Barcelona in June.
The activities before the festival also include the exhibition “Beep Collection: Origins”, curated by Roberta Bosco and Stefano Caldana and with the participation of twenty artists with works incorporated into the BEEP {collection}, which can be visited at the Centre d’Art Cal Massó in Reus from 26 May to 23 July. In fact, the screenings scheduled for this Thursday can be seen once the Cal Massó digital art exhibition has been inaugurated.
The ISEA 2022 festival (International Symposium on Electronic Art), promoted by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), is one of the most major events in the world, fusing art with design, science, technology, and society, and which has not been held in Europe for more than 10 years. The organisers of the ISEA have chosen the city of Reus as one of the most important extensions of the festival.
