The Casa Navàs tower continues to move closer to its long-awaited return, and each new stage of the project brings this iconic architectural element one step nearer to once again crowning the building. This restoration is one of the most significant heritage projects currently underway in Reus and aims to recover an essential part of the original appearance of one of the finest examples of Catalan Modernism.

Step by step, Casa Navàs is regaining the silhouette envisioned by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner at the beginning of the twentieth century. Furthermore, every milestone achieved in the construction process contributes to restoring a key feature that defined the identity of the building for decades.

A key element in the history of Casa Navàs

The original tower was destroyed in 1938 during the bombings that affected the centre of Reus during the Spanish Civil War. As a result, the building lost one of its most distinctive architectural features, significantly altering its appearance.

For this reason, the reconstruction project represents much more than a simple architectural intervention. It is also an opportunity to recover an important part of the city’s historical memory and to restore the original composition of one of the most remarkable Modernist buildings in Europe.

Today, visitors can still admire the exceptional conservation state of Casa Navàs. However, the absence of the tower has remained one of the most visible reminders of the damage suffered during the conflict. Therefore, restoring this element has long been considered a major goal in the preservation of the building.

How the reconstruction works are progressing

The project is advancing according to schedule thanks to the coordinated efforts of architects, engineers, historians and specialised craftsmen. In addition, the reconstruction is based on extensive historical documentation, original plans and period photographs that allow the team to reproduce the tower with the highest possible degree of accuracy.

Every stage of the process requires careful planning and attention to detail. Consequently, all materials and decorative elements are being produced following strict historical criteria to ensure authenticity.

Craftsmanship, heritage and innovation

One of the most remarkable aspects of the project is the involvement of highly skilled artisans. Stonemasons, blacksmiths, glassmakers and other specialists are contributing their expertise to recreate the original finishes and decorative details.

At the same time, traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern engineering solutions. This approach ensures the safety and durability of the structure while preserving its historical appearance and architectural integrity.

Getting closer to completion

Each new advancement makes it easier to imagine the complete silhouette of Casa Navàs once again dominating the skyline of Mercadal Square. Moreover, the recovery of the tower will further strengthen the heritage value of the building and enhance the urban landscape of Reus.

The reconstruction is expected to be completed in time for the Sant Pere celebrations in Reus in 2026. This milestone will mark a historic moment both for Casa Navàs and for the city itself, which will finally recover one of its most emblematic architectural features.

Until then, work continues steadily, bringing the project closer every day to the moment when the tower once again becomes an integral part of the unmistakable image of Casa Navàs.
